Airtel's Latest Ad Might Be The Most Sexist Of Them All

Showing a female boss in power is a power statement. Showing her getting her way at work is an achievement. The first half of this new advertisement from Airtel does that with good effect. And then things go downhill.

After assigning some unspecified heavy-duty work to her colleague, she heads home and begins cooking a meal and convinces her husband (who - surprise surprise - is the earlier mentioned colleague) to head home for dinner and completely forgetting her work orders.

This is serious for two main reasons. The first reason is that it propagates the stereotype of a woman always coming back home from work to cook no matter her situation at work and second, it subtly points out to her need for her man over her colleague. Or in other words, her personal life over her professional life. With ads like this it's little wonder that Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg has to ask women employees to Lean In more and Indra Nooyi of Pepsico has to state that women can't have it all.

But of course, this is our view although folks on Twitter are a divided bunch. What do you think of this ad? Let us know in the comments below.
