n 1980, Hrishikesh Mukherjee created a stir in the industry with a one-of-its-kind film called 'Khoobsurat' starring Rekha in the lead. Thirty four years later, director Shashanka Ghosh brings to us a remake of the film, set in modern times. Starring Sonam Kapoor and Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Afzal Khan in the lead, 'Khoobsurat' is a film about a vivacious girl who comes over to stay at her sister's in-laws, and changes the course of things in the family.
Her personality is strikingly contrasting to the royal family, which makes for a hilarious plot line. The cast also includes veterans like Ratna Pathak Shah and Kirron Kher in pivotal roles. Ratna Pathak Shah looks every bit of the disciplinarian, status-conscious woman, much like her Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai character 'Maya Sarabhai' and Kirron Kher is spot on as Sonam Kapoor's chilled out mother. Sonam Kapoor seems at ease with her character this time. Looks like she'll finally be able to pull off an applause-worthy performance. Fawad Khan is also suitably cast as the charming prince. It's difficult to say how the film is going to perform at the box office but one thing is for certain—the trailer does look promising! Stay tuned for more updates on the film.
