It has been rumoured that Samsung is preparing a new, more premium, Galaxy phone. Now we can say that there is some truth behind this rumour. A user on Weibo, China's most popular social networking website, has posted photos of an upcoming Galaxy phone. The photos show that unlike the existing Galaxy phones, the upcoming phone has a metal frame around it, indicating that it could be the Galaxy Alpha we are hearing about.
Unlike the Galaxy S5, the Alpha has more angular design and uses straight lines. In fact, when seen from the side, it bears a resemblance to iPhone.
However, it seems that the use of metal is limited to the frame around the phone. It looks like the back cover is still made of plastic or some other plastic like material. It also has the finely perforated pattern found on the Galaxy S5, though it seems lot more subdued.
Compared to existing high-end Galaxy phones, the Alpha is likely to be smaller and more compact. According to specifications reported on SamMobile, a website that covers Samsung-specific news, the Alpha is likely to have a 4.7-inch screen with 720P resolution. It will be powered by Exynos 5433 processor, which has 8-core. According to leaked benchmarks, Exynos 5433 is marginally faster than Qualcomm Snapdragon 805, which should start appearing in high-end phones in the next few months. Alpha is also likely to have 2GB RAM, a 12MP primary camera, a 2MP front camera, heart rate sensor and 32GB internal storage. The phone will run on Android KitKat (4.4.4).
According to GSMArena, user will be able to access and replace battery in the Alpha but it won't have a microSD card slot, something that has been a regular feature on the Galaxy phones.
The Galaxy Alpha is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
