Xiaomi's Mi 3 smartphone has garnered unprecedented demand in India. On Tuesday, it was offered for a fourth time on Flipkart, in the form a flash sale and like clockwork the phone was sold out within seconds.
This time around Xiaomi brought 20,000 units for sale, an increase of 5,000 from its flash sale on August 5. Xiaomi had more than 150,000 pre-registrations for the device. On August 5, the phone was sold out in 2 seconds and on July 29 it was gobbled up in 5 seconds.
The phone is modestly priced at Rs 13,999. It features class leading specs with a fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 5-inch 1080p screen and a 13-megapixel rear camera.
Xiaomi has been slowly ramping-up production of the device to cater to the needs of the Indian consumer, though it admits that it underestimated the demand for the device.
In an interview with BGR India , Xiaomi's VP for global operations, Huga Barra apologised for the lack of supply and admitted that it will be hard for the company to respond so quickly.
