Microsoft investing in CyanogenMod

It appears that Microsoft is not investing in popular Android mod-maker Cyanogen after all, or so Bloomberg reports citing unnamed sources who claim to have an insight on the company's financial dealings. The people familiar with the matter have revealed that Cyanogen is collecting $110 million in funds from its investors, which does not include Microsoft Corp. However, a person who wished to remain anonymous has hinted that the company might still be interested in getting "its software into Cyanogen's mobile operating system."

Back in August 2014, a report claimed that Microsoft was 'interested' in Cyanogen, and this rumor was further fueled when the mod-maker apparently declined an acquisition offer from Google in October. Then two months ago, another report from the WSJ claimed that Microsoft had become a 'minority investor' in Cyanogen, in a recent round of equity financing worth around $70 million. The company behind the hugely popular CyanogenMod user experience on Android was said to be courting various 'strategic investors' who are equally "eager to diminish Google's control over Android".

Both the companies declined to comment on the validity of the report but Bloomberg states that Microsoft could still be interested in signing a commercial deal with Cyanogen.
