The iOS 8 update is finally out and it’s packed with a lot of new features. Apart from the popular features like messages, smarter keyboard and fitness tracking, there are a lot of new features you might not know about. So here’s a look at some amazing unknown iOS 8 features –
A new “details” section has been added to Messages. What it does is that it puts together all of the attachments that have either been sent or received, in one place. Simply put, you can view each item you shared with a certain person over time in one place. Be it videos, memes or photos—it will collate everything shared by you since the time you got your hands on the iPhone (if you haven’t restored the set). This feature also makes it easy to delete any attachment in the device as well.
Now Siri will be at your service once you say ‘Hey Siri’. You can access this clear ‘Ok Google’ rip-off by tweaking Siri’s setting. Also, Apple claims that Siri has been improved a great lot and is now much more responsive and good at search.
Okay so this is nothing new for the Android users, but definitely comes as relief for iOS users from pathetic mobile versions of certain websites. An option saying “Request Desktop Site” has been added in safari clicking on which you can request the desktop version of almost any website. To access the “Request Desktop Site” button, tap on the URL or search bar and drag down to expose the button.
This feature might come in very handy next time you search for something specific on a website. Quick Website Search remembers what all searches you have made on specific websites (like Flipkart, Amazon and etc). So next time you type “Flipkart” ahead of your search terms, Safari will automatically search the website for the product.
If you have certain social websites where you share more compared to other websites, here’s a good thing. Now you can rearrange the share sheet according to your preference. If you tend to share on Facebook the most, you can move it to the first place and so on. So next time you click on the share icon, Facebook will appear on the first spot, even before Apple’s own messaging and email apps.
Apple has tweaked the rather unused spotlight search on the iOS 8 and it is simply fantastic now. The spotlight is now more powerful than ever and displays Wikipedia snippets, suggested websites, iTune suggestions and even the App Store. You can even look into local movie times, or local food joints, etc. Also, it now digs with extreme precision in your message history, email, and reminders — with instant results.
