If you are a heavy user of Skype, you will know that as of right now, you need an app to fully use the service. But, that is about to change as Skype has opened up a private 'Skype for Web' beta that is now rolling out to some users.

As you can see from the screenshots in this post, the web version of Skype has many of the same features as the apps that the company offers on nearly every platform. Basic chat and video chat is currently supported, along with regular voice calls.

If you are in the beta or simply want to test your luck, you can try this link to see if the page is live for you. If you are not in the beta, the site will tell you that you need to wait for an invitation before trying out the feature.

Skype for Web will be a welcomed addition to the service as it allows you to use the communication tool even if you cannot download the app on your machine. For those of you who use public computers or your office does not allow the downloading of apps, Skype for Web will be your savior.

No word on when this feature will launch publicly but seeing as it is in beta, we shouldn't have to wait too much longer for its release.
