Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir took to Twitter to express his disappointment after being ignored for the upcoming New Zealand series. A lot of speculations and assumptions were being made for Gautam Gambhir to return to the national side after a long time.
Gambhir, who is currently playing for the India Blue in the Duleep Trophy, has already registered 4 scores in excess of 50 and has piled up 321 runs at an average of over 80. With Shikhar Dhawan not being in the best of the forms, it was perhaps the best chance for the southpaw from Delhi to make a comeback to the national side.
However, the selectors begged to differ from the thought and went ahead with pretty much the same side that toured the Caribbean last month. Despite being in supreme touch, Gambhir failed to make it to the side. His form has been great since the IPL this year. He led Kolkata Knight Riders from the front and amassed 501 runs to be among the top 5 run getters of the season.
After being ignored for the series, Gambhir responded with a tweet saying that he is surely disappointed but not defeated. He also asserted that his grit and courage will not dwindle and he will continue to fight for staging a comeback to the national set up again. He wrote, “I'm disappointed but not defeated; I'm cornered but not a coward. Grit my partner, courage my pride…for, I must fight, I must fight…”
There was a huge uproar on the social media after the squad was picked for the New Zealand series. Many lashed at the selectors for ignoring the likes of in-form players Gautam Gambhir, Kuldeep Yadav and Sheldon Jackson. Shardul Thakur, too, was ignored without being given a match during the West Indies tour. India is scheduled to play 3 Tests against New Zealand with the first Test commencing on 22 September at the Green Park Stadium at Kanpur.
