South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Ravindra Gupta said that SCR would spend `40 crore for improving infrastructure in railway stations located in both Krishna and Guntur districts for the Krishna Pushkarams slated to be held from August 12 to 23. “Krishna Canal junction, Mangalagiri, Gunadala and other railway stations will witness development works," he said.
Gupta said that they are mooting to operate 500 special trains to the Pushkaram-bound districts from different parts of the country. He told reporters here on Friday that CCTV cameras will also be installed at all railway stations to ensure security of passengers. Stating that a survey would be taken up on railway lines to new capital Amaravati, he said works would be started after completion of the survey within a year.
Earlier, Ravindra Gupta inspected passenger amenities and retiring rooms at Guntur railway station. He also examined the sketches for the construction of a new Foot over Bridge (FoB) connecting East and West terminals of Guntur station. Apart from inspecting the arrangements at Running Room, where drivers and guards of trains arrived from out stations on duty avail rest before taking up duty by next trains, he also made a visit to the Railway Hospital in Guntur.
