SAN JOSE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his one-on-one engagement with tech-giants of Silicon Valley on Saturday evening with a brief meeting with Apple Chief Tim Cook in San Jose, California.

"We have a unique tie with India. Our founder Steve Jobs went to India for inspiration," Mr Cook told PM Modi during their meeting.

"My meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was terrific," said the Apple chief after the meeting.

During the meeting, the prime minister asked Mr Cook to start manufacturing of Apple products in India to which he responded positively, said Vikas Swarup, MEA spokesperson.

The Prime Minister later met various tech giants, including Microsoft's Satya Nadella, Adobe's Shantanu Narayen, Qualcomm's Paul Jacobs, Cisco's John Chambers and The Indus entrepreneurs president Venkatesh Shukla and Google's Sundar Pichai.

Earlier he had an informal meeting with the Indian diaspora and then Prime Minister Modi left for the Tesla Motors facility.

Tesla's chief executive Elon Musk then gave the prime minister, who is an ardent supporter of new and renewable energy, a tour of the company's trend-setting electric car plant here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Silicon Valley after it became the hub of global innovation and entrepreneurship.
