The former TN CM Jayalalithaa is at the Parappana Agrahara prison in Bangalore after being convicted for four years imprisonment and Rs 100 crores fine. Now, another highlight has come into focus. It is heard that Jaya used a government official's services to acquire land at throw away prices.
His name is Rajagopal and he was the district registrar at the north Chennai office during 1994. He has given his statement to the special court judge Michael D'Cunha. Apparently, in 1994, Rajagopal was asked to visit the CM's residence at Poes Garden. He was told by Sudhakaran, nephew of Sasikala, Jaya's close aide, to identify plots for purchase.
Rajagopal took the help of a real estate broker Siva and large chunks of land were bought by companies which had Jayalalithaa's involvement. The prices were way below government guidelines but Rajagopal went ahead and registered them. In that process, about 1200 acres of land in Tirunelveli district was purchased for just Rs 25 lakhs by Riverway Agro, a company owned by Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi. As expected, the AIADMK women's forum quashed this and maintained there is no proof that Rajagopal ever visited Poes Garden. Let us see what happens next.
