Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today released Godavari water to river Krishna by switching on 24 pump sets at Pattiseema Lift Irrigation (PLI) project in Pattiseema village of West Godavari district.
The Chief Minister after performing pooja, released water by switching on the pump sets. The 24 pump sets would pump 8,500 cusecs of water into the Polavaram Right Main Canal and the water would merge in the river Krishna, three km upstream of Prakasam barrage, near here. The government aimed at releasing of water for Krishna delta towards rabi crop. The PLI project was constructed at a cost of Rs.1300 crore to divert the Godavari water to the river Krishna till the Polavaram project was constructed across the river Godavari.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naidu said that last year 9 TMC of Godavari water diverted to the river Krishna through the Pattiseema project, which saved crops in thousands of acres in the Krishna delta region. He reminded that some leaders even challenged that interlinking of Krishna-Godavari rivers was not possible. 'By diverting of Godavari water into river Krishna, the government made impossible as possible and created a history', he said. Ministers D Umamaheshwara Rao, P Pulla Rao, P Manikyala Rao P Sujata, K Srinivas, a host of MLAs and officials were present.
