The Union Home Ministry have finally shifted its focus on to the affairs of Telangana State. There were several representations and complaints from various political parties and politicians regarding the planned Micro level Survey on 19th of this month. While government says the survey only intends to bring out the exact data of beneficiaries of various government welfare schemes, there are doubts from several people that government is trying to dish out people in the name of nativity.
Union Home Ministry wrote a letter to Telangana Government to asking it to give them a detailed report regarding the complete details and objectives of the survey. Constitutional Experts say there are several violations in this survey. According to the Census Act 1948, only central government is allowed to undertake data collection and this attempt will only amount to impinging privacy of the citizens.
Also except for the Union government, no one are allowed to collect financial data like bank accounts etc. Also the Telangana government has decided to cancel all the Public transport on that day which is clearly a violation of the constitution. It is said that Home Ministry will decide if there are any violations in this Survey and may even orders to stall the Survey if they find the violations.
There are several petitions regarding the Survey in Andhra Pradesh High Court. Over 369,000 state government employees, including police and teachers, will conduct the survey across 10 districts of Telangana and survey 8.4 million households on August 19th. The government wants to wrap up the entire Survey in one day from 8 AM to 8 PM on that day.
