AP Speaker Asks Police To Maintain Strict Vigil During Session

The stage is set for the commencement of the budget session of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature on Saturday. The session will commence with the address of Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to the joint session of the legislature. Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu will present the budget for the financial year 2016-17 tentatively on March 10 and Agriculture Minister P. Pulla Rao is expected to present the agriculture budget the same day.

Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao asked the Police Department to make elaborate security arrangements to ensure that there was no scope for any untoward incidents during the session. The Speaker's directive assumes significance in the light of the calls given by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti, a section of Kapu leaders agitating for backward class status to the community and other sections for conducting 'chalo Assembly' rallies.

The Speaker convened separate meetings with senior officials headed by Chief Secretary S.P. Tucker, senior officials of the Police Department and employees of the legislature ahead of the session. He wanted police officials to take steps to ensure that there were no untoward incidents during the session as it would coincide with the budget session of the Telangana Legislature.

Directive to departments: - The departments concerned have been asked to get ready with replies to queries raised by the members in time so that there was no scope for complaints from the Treasury Benches or the Opposition. The Chief Secretary is learnt to have assured the Speaker that necessary arrangements would be made in this direction. The schedule and agenda of the budget session would be finalised after the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, likely on Saturday. Sources said the House was likely to be in session for close to 20 working days till the passage of the Appropriation Bill towards the month-end.
