Andhra Pradesh Intensifies Capital Shifting Exercise

The Andhra Pradesh government, which set June 27 as the deadline for shifting the first batch of secretariat employees to Amaravati, has begun the exercise of deciding the number of skeletal staff, who should be kept in Hyderabad from each department to carry on the State's works in the common capital till the entire 'seat of power' is shifted to Amaravati.

“We are planning to keep five per cent staff from each department in Hyderabad for the time being. Preference is being given to employees, who are nearing retirement age or who have health problems," a senior official told Media.

The State government intensified the process of identifying departments that are to be shifted to the new capital. As part of this, chief secretary S P Tucker on Saturday held a meeting with the Heads of Departments (HoDs) in the secretariat.

The chief secretary told the HoDs that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wants to shift all the departments in a phased manner by August. According to sources, a few HoDs raised the issue of accommodation and transportation in the capital region and told the chief secretary that the employees were very much concerned about these issues.
