The battle for OBC quota is back in Andhra Pradesh. The decision of AP government to include Kapu community under Backward Classes (BC) category has opened Pandora's Box in Andhra politics. The announcement was made by Finance Minister Yanamala Rama Krishunudu after a cabinet meeting held under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu at Vijayawada on Monday.
The TDP justifies its decision to include politically dominant community in the BC quota as it was fulfills its electoral promise. The government decided to constitute a commission to study the issue and suggest the quantum of reservation for the community within the BC quota. TDP and BC leader R Krishnaiah opposed the decision of AP government to include Kapus under BC quota as it was against the interests of the backward classes in Andhra Pradesh. He said Kapus were socially and economically well off than other BC castes and they don't deserve to be included among the OBCs.
