In a sensational verdict Supreme court had canceled all the 214 coal block allocation today which were allocated since 1993. Supreme court had given six months’ time to wind up their work. It had exempted 4 coal block from this verdict which allocated to NTPC,SAIL and UMPP.
The government has claimed that an investment of nearly Rs.2 lakh crore has already been made in those blocks. its urged court not to cancel 46 coal blocks that have either started production or are close to it. The coal blocks allocation case is under purview of bench headed by Chief Justice R.M. Lodha. Lodha submitted 163 page detailed report as part of veridict on coal allocations.
The government's lawyer, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, had told judges that the government is open to re-auctioning the coal blocks. PMO not yet responded on this verdict.
