Small time Telugu actress Neetu Agarwal has been arrested and taken into judicial custody for her involvement in the Red Sanders smuggling case. Red Sanders (sandalwood) are rare in nature and are thus dealt and sold for huge prices in the black market. The actress has been found guilty of smuggling 34 red sanders and being associated with other people who have been conducting these smuggling activities for quite some time now.
According to reports, YSR Congress leader Kondampalli Mastan Vali used Neetu Agarwal's account to transfer money to one of the alleged smugglers. Vali who had produced the actress' first film Prema Prayanam got married to her last year secretly. Mastan Vali was earlier a lemon vendor and he continued to smuggle red sanders after his release from prison and was again arrested. All of the accounts related to the case have been freezed and police is further investigating to catch the other culprits.
Neetu, who was present in the court yesterday pleaded that she was a victim of domestic violence and was under the influence of Vali for her participation in the smuggling case. She stated that she was forced to finance Vali's business and had no idea what the money was being used for. However officials have a reason to believe that the actress, due to her zero progress in film industry, had willingly joined the smuggling business. After her failure in south industry Neetu had also camped in Mumbai for several months to try her luck but nothing turned up. She has been sent to judicial remand till May 7.
