With the results of the recently concluded Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections declared for the Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Mahaboob Nagar, Krishna, Guntur and both the Godavari districts, political pundits are seeing it as a rude shock to the ruling parties in both the Telugu speaking states. In the initial results, the TDP-BJP alliance gave a shocking defeat to the ruling TRS party in Telangana by winning the Hyderabad constituency.
Meanwhile in Andhra Pradesh, the ruling TDP suffered a shameful defeat in the hands of its rebel candidate, Ramu Surya Rao, of the United Teachers' Federation who scored a thumping victory in the Godavari district. However, TDP has something to cheer for, since it has won the contest in the Krishna-Guntur region. Not surprisingly, Congress
was nowhere to be seen in both the regions.
Ever since the formation of Telangana post the 2014 general elections, both TRS and TDP have been under immense pressure from its opposition and the common public. With both the parties failing to keep their poll promises in the basic areas like water, power and agricultural development, both the parties have accumulated public wrath, and the BJP party seems to be cashing in on the resent. Will the party now rise from the ashes and play a crucial role in the upcoming GHMC elections?
