The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has zeroed in on its candiate for upcoming Medak Lok Sabha bypoll. After a lot of dilly dallying, it announced Kotha Prabhakar Reddy as its candidate for the seat. Whereas TNGO president Deviprasad, who was a strong contender for the seat, has been nominated as MLC. The election for Medak Parliament is necessitated after KCR decided to represent Legislative Assembly from Gajwel constituency and gave up the seat of Parliament.
48-year-old Kotha Prabhakar Reddy is a transport baron who own Sony Travels and rents his buses to corporate firms in Hyderabad. He is going to slug out with former minister Sunitha Lakshma Reddy from Congress. BJP-TDP combine is fielding Jagga Reddy as its candidate.
The bypoll election turned out to be curcial for all the major political parties. TRS is keen to pocket the seat again as this election might be seen as referendum to 3-month-old TRS government. On flip side, BJP-TDP is banking on Narendra Modi's charisma whereas Congress wants to improve its number in the Lok Sabha. The election is scheduled to take place on Sep 13 and the result will be announced on Sep 16.
