Splendour marked the 'Ugadi' celebrations at the shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala:- In connection with the Telugu New Year – Durmukh Naama Samvatsara Ugadi Asthanam was organised inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. The celebrations began with the Ekantha Thirumanjanam to the deities of Lord Malayappa swamy and His two divine consorts and Lord Vishwaksena – the commander in chief of the army of Lord's domain. Panchanga sravanam was rendered to the deities mounted atop the golden Sarva Bhoopala vahanam at Bangaru vakili at the pre-designated hour followed by Asthanam.
Earlier special rituals such as Vishesha padi pradakshina and the procession of nutana vastrams around the Vimana prakaram marked the day. As is customary the new silk vastrams were presented to the main deity by the pontiffs of the temple. The town wore a festive look and the air was gripped with religious fervour. The entire temple complex was tastefully decorated with a rich variety of fruits and flowers of all hues. The floral Poorna kumbham in front at the threshold of the Dwajasthambam and the fruit hangings from the roof tops of the temple added more colour to the festival.
