Amaravati is slowly getting all the deserving traction. Several world class businesses have already evinced interest in the new capital city of AP. Now, its the turn of the most reputed telecom giants. A plethora of global telecom players are racing ahead to grab the upcoming business opportunities inside Amravati. This illustrious list includes Reliance, Bharti Airtel, BSNL, Idea, Vodafone and Singapore's Singtel.
The telecom giants have already set things in motion, having talks with the government. As per the internal sources, the brands of global repute are testing waters with the initial pilot projects within the city.
“All eyes are on the possible service contracts, which are meant to support government departments and programs. Services such as high-end teleconferencing, interactive programs, back-end services for multi-point public address and big data throw a lot of business for the telecom companies. A couple of firms have even crossed the first level of talks,” a top level source said in anonymity while speaking to the media.
While the name Singtel is relatively new, other nationally leading players such as Airtel, Reliance Jio and BSNL have proved their mettle, exercising competitive market monopoly all over the country. This apart, telecom major Reliance is all set to make a roaring entrance with its 20 MBPS-free public WiFi on the 3.5 km upmarket Mahatma Gandhi Road in Vijayawada.
“We have sought time from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to get the free public service unveiled in a couple of days. We are working closely with the government and will focus on every possible business opportunity in Amaravati and Vijayawada,” said a senior official from Reliance Jio, while speaking to the media.
Bharti Airtel, too has launched 4G in Vijayawada region few days ago. Airtel's CEO for AP and Telangana, Venkatesh Vijayraghavan had an exclusive meeting with the Chief Minister Mr Naidu. Airtel has lately tied up with the State government to provide E – Shakti, a mobile and e-literacy program for Self-Help Group women in AP. The firm is believed to several plans for the State where lakhs of active SHG women will be involved.
The State owned BSNL is also going neck to neck with its own mission. BSNL has already installed 17 free 5G hot spots for public WiFi service at the Pandit Nehru Bus Station in Vijayawada. The nationally sought after giant has tied up with a US-based Quadgen, partner of US telecom major AT & T to launch the service.
