The tall claims of Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao that all the 28,000 crore illegal constructions will be razed haven't been a reality. After carrying out demolitions for close to one week, GHMC has put the drive on hold. So far, 388 structures on nalas and 216 establishments on lakes have been demolished.
GHMC is now planning to conduct a fresh survey named 'Samagrah' before relaunching the demolition drive. A Committee consisting of members of Revenue, Town Planning, GHMC Engineering and Survey Settlement will be constituted to collect all the details. Officials will carry out ground inspection to identify the buildings which were built on encroached lands.
Doubts were raised if the fresh survey is only meant to safeguard the properties of big fishes. Already, The reports of GHMC Officials giving a miss to a school building belonging to Malkajgiri MP Malla Reddy despite lack of permission surfaced.
