Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao on Sunday promised to look into the plea to name Andhra Patrika Centre after veteran Telugu film actor 'Natabhushana' Sobhan Babu.
Addressing the gathering after unveiling the statue of the actor along with Rajahmundry MP M.Murali Mohan, MLAs Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and Gadde Rammohan Rao, the Minister said he would first bring the issue to the notice of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and later initiate measures to pass a resolution in council meeting of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) to name the junction as Sobhan Babu Circle.
The Minister assured that necessary steps would be taken to institute awards in the name of Sobhan Babu. He advised the actor's fans' association to submit a memorandum so that he could forward it to the State government for approval. He appreciated the association for taking measures to install the statue of the famous actor in the heart of the city.
Mr. Murali Mohan recalled his association with Mr. Sobhan Babu and added that his valuable advice helped him in his life to a large extent. State-wide Sobhan Syndicate president Kallepalli Madhusudana Raju said the eight-foot tall bronze statue weighing 800 kilos was sculpted by Rajkumar Vudayar from East Godavari. He said no-objection certificate was taken from the district Collector, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, Roads and Buildings, and Police Departments before finalising the place for installing the idol.
