Godavari In Spate; Crossed Second Warning Level


Thanks to incessant rains in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, the Godavari, Penganga and Pranahita rivers are in spate. On Monday, the water level in Godavari at Bhadrachalam crossed the second warning level of 48 feet. The water level at 5 pm was 51 feet with the third warning to be announced at 53 feet. However, there have been no major inflows in the projects on Krishna River. Meanwhile, several villages in Khammam, Adilabad and Warangal have been cut off due to floods.

Pranahita and Penganga are flowing at danger levels and crops over 5,000 acre have been inundated. Traffic between Adilabad and Maharashtra has also been affected as the Penganga is flowing over bridges and roads. The TS government has sounded high alert and directed district collectors to be vigilant following heavy inflows into Godavari. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in TS and AP for the next two days.

Assistant meteorologist at IMD Hyderabad, Mr M. Narsimha Rao said, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall warning has been issued for the next three days in Telangana for districts like Adilabad, Nizamabad, Khammam, Warangal."
