The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned twice on Monday after slogan-shouting YSR Congress members disrupted the Question Hour demanding a discussion on the action taken by the Government to protect the interests of the depositors of Agri Gold scam.
As soon as the House met to take up the day's listed business, YSR Congress members trooped into the Well and sought a discussion on the issue as notice for an adjournment motions been given by them. Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao told the Opposition members that they were violating the rules which were agreed upon by themselves at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting to allow Question Hour and Zero Hour before taking up other issues. He urged them to co-operate with the Chair.
With the members not relenting despite appeals from treasury benches, the Speaker adjourned the House for about 40 minutes. When the House re-assembled, the Opposition members again rushed into the Well and raised slogans seeking justice to Agri Gold victims. Agreeing that it was an important issue, the Speaker said that it would be taken up at an appropriate time in an appropriate manner, even as TDP and BJP members criticised YSR Congress members for stalling the proceedings. As the slogan-shouting continued, the Speaker adjourned the House for over an hour.
When similar scenes were witnessed after the House re-assembled, Government Chief Whip K. Srinivasulu said the Government was ready for a debate on the issue today itself and requested the Chair to fix the time. With the government agreeing for a debate, the Speaker announced that the debate would be taken up after lunch and announced that the notice for an adjournment motion has been disallowed, while YSR Congress members returned to their seats. Leader of Opposition Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said the opposition would cooperate since the Government agreed for a debate today itself.
