Passengers in a Thane-CST local were alarmed when they found a semi-nude woman, who appeared mentally disturbed, in the ladies compartment at 8.28am on Tuesday. Some of the commuters pulled the alarm chain as the train was pulling into Mulund station. Railway Protection Force officials said the woman was a beggar and was around 70 years old. The Government Railway Police said they were unaware of the incident.
A senior Central Railway (CR) official expressed surprise that no railway cop was aware of the woman's presence in the compartment. "The train must have either come from Thane siding or the yard. We have maintenance staffers there. How is it that nobody noticed this woman in the second-class compartment?" he said. Passengers, who boarded the train at Thane, pulled the alarm chain.
"The passengers informed the RPF at Mulund station. The woman was given some clothes and taken to another platform," the CR official said.
