Transform Universities as Skill Development Centres: AP CM

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday called upon vice-chancellors of universities, who met him on Monday, to take steps to transform the universities into knowledge hubs. During the interaction with the vice-chancellors in Vijayawada, Chandrababu Naidu directed the VCs to develop the varsities as skill development centres to pave the way for a knowledge society to place the State on the global map.

He said: “Universities must be places of inventions, innovative ideas, with the faculty training students to increase their knowledge.” The Chief Minister asked the VCs to adopt corrective measures to regain the glory of universities where their reputation was ruined due to some incidents.

The varsities should hold debates on the government's initiatives such as Interlinking of rivers, water conservation, drought conditions prevailing in the State among other issues and make recommendations to the government. Stating that the future leaders and young entrepreneurs were made on campuses, Chandrababu said, “Universities should adopt a constructive approach to inculcate leadership qualities among the students.”

He pointed out that the government had appointed industrialists as members of the university senates to drive a growth of industry and assist students in providing opportunities for skill development. He asked the VCs to prepare the students to choose the best careers. CMO chief secretary Satish Chandra and joint secretary Pradyumna were present.
