Third flight diverted in US over reclining seat dispute

A Delta flight from New York to Florida was rerouted due to a mid-air fight between two women passengers over a reclining seat, the third such incident in the US in just over a week.

Delta flight 2370 was diverted to Jacksonville International Airport, a civil-military public airport in Florida after leaving LaGuardia International Airport, New York, yesterday because of a fight involving two passengers, US media reports said today. This woman who was sitting next to me, knitting actually, just tried to recline her seat back and the woman behind her started screaming and swearing, passenger Aaron Klipin was quoted as saying by Floria-based The flight attendant came over and that just exacerbated what was going on and then she demanded that the flight land. Out of an abundance of caution, the captain elected to divert to the closest airport, Delta said in a statement.

The woman, who has not been identified, was escorted off the plane by police in Jacksonville. She said something to the effect of, 'I don't care about the consequences, put this plane down now, Klipin said. The flight attendants went and spoke with the captain while somebody was blocking her path to the cabin, and then a few minutes later an announcement came on that we were diverting to Jacksonville. The flight eventually continued on to Palm Beach International Airport.

This is the third time a South Florida flight had to be diverted because of a passenger disruption in recent weeks. Last Wednesday, a flight from Miami to Paris was diverted to Boston when a mid-air brawl erupted when a man became enraged after a woman in front of him reclined her seat. The American Airlines' flight was diverted to the Logan International Airport in Boston after a spat over seat reclining, officials said.
On August 24, a United Airlines flight from Newark to Denver was diverted to Chicago on due to a fight between two passengers. The brawl erupted when a man set up a gadget that would not let the woman in front of him recline in her seat and she tossed a cup of water in his face.
