In a major fire mishap in Delta Sugars Limited, bagasse stocks worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed on Monday. However, no casualties were reported. According to AP State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department authorities, bagasse stocks (pulp that comes out of the machine after sugarcane was crushed) were damaged in flames.
Krishna District Fire Officer (DFO) D. Niranjan Reddy said fire spread to some heaps of bagasse on the factory premises. On receiving information, six tenders from Gannavaram, Gudivada, Hanuman Junction, Kaikalur, Nuzvid and Eluru were rushed to the spot and efforts are on to extinguish flames, he said.
“About sixty stacks of bagasse, which is used in paper industry, was kept in the factory. Fire personnel are taking steps to prevent the spread of flames to the other bagasse heaps," the DFO told the Media. Additional DFO Srinivas and a team of Station Fire Officers are monitoring the operation. The reasons for the cause of fire ascertaing, said Mr. Reddy.
