JNU Row: CBI Finds Raw Footage Of Kanhaiya Protest To Be Authentic

The JNU row that brought Zee News under the scanner for allegedly circulating doctored footage took a fresh turn, as forensic examination suggests that the four clippings in question are genuine.

According to an article published in The Hindu, the forensic science laboratory in Gujarat's Gandhinagar issued a clarification stating that the set cleared by them does not include the unedited footage submitted by Zee News. It also said that it does not have the videos that Delhi government sent to a private lab and were declared to be doctored.

"That video is with the CBI CFSL lab in Delhi and it is expected that its report will arrive in a week" Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Arvind Deep said.

According to reports, these video clips were mostly shot by mobile phones of security guards and other students who were present on campus during the February 9 event that eventually led to JNU Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar and two other students, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, to be arrested and booked under charges of sedition. They are presently out on bail.

An officer close to the probe said several persons, who allegedly shouted anti-India slogans during the event, have been identified on the basis of the videos reported to be genuine.
