Media baron Peter Mukerjea was brought to the capital on Tuesday and questioned by the CBI on financial deals seen as a possible motive behind the murder of Sheena Bora.
The CBI in its chargesheet stated that the motive behind the murder was monetary gain: “After the engagement of Rahul Mukerjea (Peter's son), and Sheena, Indrani Mukerjea – mother of Sheena — was afraid that the entire property might go to the couple, as Peter liked his son. In this context, she planned a conspiracy with her second husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai to kill Sheena."
Peter, who is in CBI custody till November 26, is being questioned about his financial transactions, his relationship with Indrani and his business empire. CBI sleuths are also scrutinising bank accounts held jointly by Indrani and Peter. The source of money in several accounts, including ones in HDFC, Barclays and Kotak Mahindra, is also being probed.
After Indrani and Khanna had refused to undergo a lie detection test, the agency asked Peter whether he was willing to undergo the polygraph test or not. Sources said Peter too has refused. The CBI also called Rahul to New Delhi to join the investigation. Sources said he turned approver and gave all details, including recorded conversations of him and Peter and Indrani. The agency has given him a clean chit.
