TDP floats forum to foster peace between Kapus, BCs

In the wake of violence at Tuni during the Kapu Garjana on Sunday, the Telugu Desam Party has floated a forum to foster peace between the Kapus and the Backward Classes. TDP State secretary G. Narasimha Yadav, representing the Backward Classes, and Vooka Vijayakumar, a State leader representing the Kapus, have been made conveners of the forum that aims at spreading the message in all the thirteen districts that the two communities have no differences.

The two leaders, led by Tirupati legislator M. Suguna, formally launched the Vedika at Alipiri, the foot of Tirumala hills on Monday. The members chanted 'Govindaa Govinda' while lighting camphor and breaking the coconuts. They also raised slogans at the Garuda circle stressing the need for peace.

Speaking to the media, Ms. Suguna insisted that the Kapus were not involved in the violent activities that rocked Tuni and it was a deliberate attempt to bring disrepute to the community. She said the government was contemplating various options to provide reservations to the community and would come up with an acceptable solution within nine months. “Though the community leaders did attend the meeting, not even a single Kapu was involved in the agitation," asserted Ms. Suguna, also a Kapu, adding that it would be proved sooner than later with the help of technology.

Mr. Yadav assured the Backward Classes that the Kapu reservation would not eat into their pie. “Kapus will get reservation over and above the quota meant for the BCs," he said.
