Residents of Rajamahendravaram will soon have the feel of multiplex, shopping mall, food courts and fun games. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone for a mega convention centre here soon. “The location of the convention centre has already been identified. Global tenders for the project have been almost finalised, and by next week, investors will sign an MoU with State government," said Neerabh Kumar Prasad, Principal Secretary, Andhra Pradesh Tourism.
The convention centre will come up where the Jail DIG's bungalow once stood. The Tourism Secretary said investors had promised to build the convention centre on the lines of In-orbit mall and GVK One in Hyderabad. However, he made it clear that the project would be taken up under public private partnership (PPP) mode. Mr. Prasad also said that the government was planning to develop the Pichuka Lanka Islands under a package and conduct regular laser show at the open-air auditorium on the banks of the Godavari.
Amusement park: Mr. Prasad said a foreign investor and a Bangalore-based company, would construct an amusement park between Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam on the national highway. “The project is completely under the private sector, but with the Andhra Pradesh tourism tag.
“Once the site is finalised, we will announce the project," the official said. He added that the government was keen on encouraging private investment in tourism promotion, and that wherever government land was available, the State would go for private partnership mode. The Principal Secretary said no Government Order was necessary for using land for tourism projects that are taken up by private groups.
