The central government owned telecom agency Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) had yet again embarrassed the nation by committing a mistake that would even insult Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The telecom agency has sent a phone bill to the residence of former Indian President and Bharat Ratna awardee late APJ Abdul Kalam.
The revenue recovery notice which has been sent by BSNL clearly states that outstanding bill needs to be cleared urgently for a one-time settlement. According to the telecom agency the bill stands Rs 1,029 for the phone number – 2724800 and have warned that if this is not cleared, then they should be ready to face revenue recovery action. The notice — released on November 18, 2015 — was directed the Thiruvananthapuram region revenue recovery officer to seize his movable and unmovable properties if he failed to clear the bill.
Adding more surprise to the embarrassment, the notice was duly signed by the Accounts Officer (TR-OSP) of Trivandrum region. However, there was no mention of the bill period, it was generated when Kalam visited the guest house at the Kerala Raj Bhawan for two days. After the report came to the limelight, BSNL clarified that the notice was sent to Raj Bhawan and not to Kalam and mentioned late President's name was mentioned to explain the temporary connection which was taken during his visit to the state capital.
