Over a week after artist Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer were found murdered in Mumbai, her estranged husband Chintan Upadhyay has been arrested. Chintan Upadhyay was called in for questioning late on Monday night and placed under arrest at around 3:30 on Tuesday morning. The bodies of Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani were found packed in boxes and dumped in a sewer on December 11 in Mumbai's Kandivali area.
Four people had been arrested earlier in the case so far. This is the fifth arrest in the case. Chintan and Hema were going through a bitter divorce battle since 2010. They were also at loggerheads over a Juhu apartment that they jointly owned. Hema's family told the media last week that nobody but Chintan had a motive to kill her. Fabrication worker Vidyadhar Rajbhar, in whose warehouse the murders were allegedly committed, is still on the run. Vidyadhar used to look after Chintan's work in the past.
