A day after losing power in Uttarakhand to a rebellion, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh was summoned on Monday by Congress president Sonia Gandhi for an overview of the current political circumstances in the State, where the BJP is relentlessly demanding his resignation over corruption charges.
Accompanied by senior Congress leader Ambika Soni, general secretary in charge of the State, Mr. Singh had a 30-minute long conversation with Ms. Gandhi. According to sources, he accused the BJP government at the Centre of making attempts to “destabilise” his government by sending Central investigating agencies after him.
Issues ranging from Enforcement Directorate's raid on his properties to the recent cricket controversy were discussed. Ms. Soni said the CBI probe into Mr. Singh's assets, allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income, was briefly discussed.
