The Patidar agitation leader Hardik Patel has been released from jail in Surat after the High Court granted him bail in sedition and rioting cases. The 23-year-old Mr. Patel was in jail since October last year when Surat police first arrested him in a sedition case. He is facing two sedition and one rioting case in the state. After walking out of jail, Mr. Patel reiterated that the agitation for quota will continue but at the same time, he and others would also talk to the government for compromise.
Outside Surat jail, Mr. Patel was given a rousing welcome by his supporters and Patidar members, who have gathered at the venue to support Hardik. Mr. Patel will address a roadshow in Surat and will reach Ahmedabad tonight. He is scheduled to visit several places before he leaves Gujarat as per the bail condition stipulated by the court. Hardik Patel has been asked to stay out of Gujarat for six months.
