Strong 6.4-magnitude Quake Hits Southwestern Japan


A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit Japan's southwestern island of Kyushu on Thursday, but there was no danger of a tsunami, local authorities said. The quake struck in Kumamoto, central Kyushu at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometres, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar. Though initial reports said that the earthquake measured 7.0, USGS reported that the intensity was 6.9 on the Richter scale. People were being evacuated from buildings according to latest reports.
