TV5, presently no. 1 Telugu news channel in the State, is facing a virtual blackout in Vijayawada, as TV9 has been facing in Telangana for the last three months. According to sources, the cable operators in Vijayawada have stopped telecasting TV5 for the last couple of days.
They are apparently under the impression that it was the TV5 management, which was responsible for blacking out of TV9 and ABN Andhra Jyothy channels in Telangana, with an obvious intention of being the no. 1 channel in the new State. And ever since TV9 was banned, TV5 has been topping the list of channels in Telangana in terms of viewership.
What has irritated the cable operators in Vijayawada is the lack of resistance or protest from the people of Telangana to the banning of TV9 and ABN Andhra Jyothy, whereas they have been honouring TV5 and NTV though the latter, too, are pro-Andhra channels.
Even these two channels have not expressed their solidarity with the banned channels. So, they want to teach a fitting lesson to these channels so as to bring pressure on them to restore the telecast of TV9 and ABN Andhra Jyothy. In the coming days, the cable operators might extend their ban on TV5 in the entire Andhra Pradesh, say sources.
