St Mother Teresa, the woman who gave her life to God and her love in service to the poor and needy of the world.
We remember her on her 104th birth anniversary by paying rich tributes to the great soul.
Mother Teresa was born as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia. She was the recipient of numerous honors including 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. She was involved in numerous charitable works.
Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation which consisted of over 4,500 nuns. Her Charitable Institutions are spread across over 133 countries across the world. They run hospitals and homes for people suffering from HIV/AIDS, leprosy and other dreaded diseases, orphanages and schools. The members of this charity have pledged themselves to give ‘Wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor’.
Mother Teresa is internationally famed as humanitarian and is called as ‘World’s Mother’. Mother Teresa is above all religions and nationalities. Which is why she was conferred Sainthood by Pope in the year 1928.
Her life has been a great source of inspiration to all the humans on this planet. Accordingly many charitable institutions have sprung up across the world.
There are films such as “Mother Teresa of Calcutta” based on her life.
St Mother Teresa died at the age of 87 on 5th September 1997.
