District Collector Siddharth Jain on Tuesday sought the engineering officials of the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project to fix weekly targets to the contractors working on the Punganur and Kuppam branch canals and promptly issue notices to the defaulters.
The Collector was inspecting Punganur branch canal works at Kollabailu, Kottapalle and Ramireddipalle in Madanapalle division. Expressing his displeasure at the slow pace of the tunnel works in the division, Mr Siddharth Jain said that though Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed for completion of six metres of work daily, the contractors were executing just one and half to two metres of work.
“After issuing three notices in series to the contractors, the district administration will submit a report to the State government for undertaking further steps, including action against the contractors," the Collector said.
Lifelines:- The official said that the HNSS Punganur and Kuppam branch canals were going to be the lifelines of the western mandals and tail-end Kuppam Junction. Later, he supervised the tunnel works going inside. The State government had fixed the target to complete the Punganur branch canal works by August this year. So far, Rs.1,000 crore had been pumped into the project.
