Even as the ruling TRS party is exuding confidence of winning two MLC seats from local bodies' constituencies, the Opposition has been predicting that it can wrest the second MLC seat easily provided all Opposition parties stand united. Meanwhile, the number candidates evincing interest to run for the MLC elections has been increasing with each passing day as the number of seats in the district increased to two. The TRS has kept its nominees under wraps, while the Congress decided not to leave the field wide open and field its nominee.
Decision of the MPTCs' forum to field one of the members has forced TRS to make introspection. Following the forum's decision to field its convener Arepalli MPTC Tula Balayya, he has undertaken an extensive tour of Korutla constituency. Congress party senior leaders on Sunday at a meeting decided to field its nominee. AICC member Koleti Damodar, sarpanches association honorary president U Anjani Prasad, Kataram ZPTC meber Challa Narayana Reddy, Pedappali ZPTC member Yata Divya, Ibrahimpatnam ZPTC member Jangili Suneeta's husband Dr Venkat have been evincing an interest to contest the elections.
Former minister Sridhar Babu, former MPs Ponnam Prabhakar and Vivek, Jagityala MLA Jeevan Reddy, former MLAs, and seniors would hold a meeting chaired by DCC president Katakam Mrutyunjayam to decide on the candidate. Meanwhile, word has spread that the TRS will field Naradasu Lakshman Rao and Bhanu Prasad. But the delay in confirming them has stirred a lot of interest among the party rank and file. The MPTC Forum's over drive and Congress decision to field nominee confused the ruling TRS.
Political pundits predict capturing the second seat is not easy for the TRS. Meanwhile, MLAs are busy pacifying the MPTC forum. The election scene in the district turned very hot with multiple contestants evincing interest from Congress to test their electoral fortunes. So far not a single nomination has been filed. There is scope for many to file their nominations in the next two days since December 9 is the last date for filing the nominations.
