The issue of special status to Andhra Pradesh figured in the Lok Sabha for the third consecutive day today with members from YSR Congress protesting and sloganeering in the Well to press for the demand. As the House met for the day, members of the YSR Congress, raising placards, marched into the Well, stood in front of the podium and resorted to slogan chanting.
However, the Telugu Desham Party(TDP), who was protesting against the government's apathy to the demand for past two days, did not join the agitation today in view of assurance from Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan tried to persuade the YSRCP members to take seats saying, "The Finance Minister had given assurance yesterday then there is no need of this slogan shouting, so please go to your seats." This did not work as the members remained unrelenting to their move.
Yesterday, protests by TDP and YRSCP members had forced adjournment of the House twice that was followed by the assurance from the Finance Minister and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar for sorting the issue out soon. Mr Jaitley had assured "Government stands by commitment made to Andhra Pradesh(at the time of passage of the AP State Reorganisation Bill)...We are trying to sort the issue very shortly. I have spoken to the state Chief Minister too.
