Prime Minister Narendra Modi mostly listened and other BJP lawmakers spoke their mind at a special session at Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj's office last evening, described by sources as a different take on the PM's radio show "Mann Ki Baat".
PM Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and around 60 MPs gathered at the Jawahar Bhawan, the headquarters of the External Affairs Ministry in Delhi, for the "masterclass". Ms Swaraj is among six senior ministers tasked by PM Modi to meet party MPs regularly to draw feedback about the government's work.
Sources say the prime minister has urged MPs to talk freely and express their thoughts - or Mann Ki Baat - in these sessions. The ministers have been asked to share the feedback with PM Modi. The idea germinated after MPs complained that they rarely get the chance to put their thoughts across to the leadership.
Other ministers scheduled to hold similar interactions are Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitely, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
