CPI national secretary K. Narayana has come down heavily on the Central government with regard to businessman Vijay Mallya, alleging that timely action was not taken against him in connection with the default of thousands of crores to the banks. “Mr. Mallya has committed irregularities in many instances that amounted to the looting of huge amount of public money. He got support from the previous and present governments as well,” said Mr. Narayana.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Narayana levelled charges against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for what he described as 'the unquestioned support they have given to Mr. Mallya. Stating that the liquor magnate enjoyed a lot of political support, Mr. Narayana said that the BJP and the Janata Dal (United) made a rare gesture by bringing Mr. Mallya in a special flight to the Parliament on one occasion in the past. Given the circumstances, the present government at the centre would also not dare take any action in this case, he added.
Narayana said Vijay Mallya and Magunta Subbirami Reddy, former MP, had excellent family relations. The Naxalites had targeted Vijay Mallya, but it was Subbirami Reddy who was killed by the ultras. The Naxalites could not get at Vijay Mallya, he added. Subbirami Reddy used to supply water by tankers to parched Ongole and earned a name when he was killed by Naxalites.
