Gopal Rao (Venkatesh Daggubati), a small time businessman going to any level for selling his goods (Idols of God) by minting up the godly stories with no personal beliefs at all in the existence of God.
Then one day,he speaks ill about god and his presence as he lost his shop in an earthquake. His request for the insurance is denied by the company stating “Act Of God"! Now his only way to get the money is to fight the case. He plans to lodge a case against God for his compensation & send notice to all the priests, in his words, Salesmen of God's offices.
Rest of the film revolves around his simple lifestyle and his refusal to accept god's existence.
Victory Venkatesh is apt in his role as simple atheist, and carries his character quite convincingly. The way he has performed in all the courtroom scenes is quite good. He brings in a lot of simplicity to the film, and all his scenes with Pawan Kalyan have been designed exceptionally well.
Pawan Kalyan is simply awesome as Lord Krishna, and carries the entire second half on his shoulders. Pawan brings in an emotional effect with serenity in his eyes and all the dialogues that he mouths are well written and thought provoking. He has played his character with a lot of ease and is especially good in all the combination scenes with Venkatesh.
Mithu Chakravarthy Could n't get the native appeal to the character. Posani is hilarious in his swamiji's role. Shriya,Deeksha,Madhu shalini has small screen timing.
Camerawork in the film is clean and showcases the film in a good light. As said earlier, dialogues have a lot of depth and those mouthed by Pawan Kalyan in particular are simply superb. Screenplay is neat as the entire film runs on a single thread. Editing in the second half is below par as some scenes during the climax are a bit stretched out.
Director Dolly has done a decent job with the remake as he has retained the essence of the original and has narrated the film in quite a smooth way.
Anup Ruben's music is decent, but it is his background score which adds a lot of depth to the entire set up.
Keep in mind that, Gopala Gopala is not a regular commercial entertainer though the cast includes big stars. One could enjoy this message oriented film with this aspect.
On the whole, Gopala Gopala is a film which is made straight from the heart. This film has an underlying message and is narrated in quite an entertaining way. Icing on the cake are the stunning performances by Venkatesh and Pawan Kalyan which make this film a thought provoking entertainer during this festive season.
Gopala Gopala is the story of an atheist who loses his shop in an act of god (Earth Quake). As the insurance company refuses the compensation, he sues god and godman for the damage.
Pawan Kalyan will be playing a God in the movie while Venkatesh will be seen as an atheist.
Even though Pawan Kalyan seen as God in the film, he will seen in modern costumes through out the film.
Gopala Gopala may be the first of its kind film in Telugu in which the acts of God and Godmen will be questioned.
There will be ample dose of comedy and entertainment in the movie.
Shriya Saran will be seen as Venkatesh's wife in the movie. This is their second combination after Subash Chandra Bose.
Deeksha Panth, Madhu Shalini and Anisha Ambrose will be seen in little cameos in the film.
Mithun Chakraborty has reprised the role of Godman from the original. And he is said to be one of the major highlights of the film.
The entire movie unit is confident of the film success. Venkatesh and Pawan Kalyan are in super touch with the success of their last films, Drishyam and Attarintiki Daredi and they vow to repeat the magic once gain for this Sankranthi with Gopala Gopala.
