It looks like fans of Vijay will leave no stone unturned when it comes to celebrating their favourite matinee idol. In a heart-warming gesture, over 60 of Vijay's ardent fans gathered at a theatre in Chromepet in the city to install a statue of the actor. Of those who had gathered, around 40 were college students.
Pokkiri Sabari of Facebook Vijay Fans Club, one of those associated with the process — right from the stage of conceptualisation to installation — says, "We have no particular motive. It is simply our love for Vijay that inspired us to do this. We planned it for almost a year and struggled to make this happen."
The statue resembles the 'Vishwa-bhai' get up which Vijay sported in Thalaivaa
. Sabari says, "In a way, this is our tribute to Vijay, who faced a lot of trouble during the release of Thalaivaa
. Everyone knows the kind of trouble the film ran into during the time of its release. It was banned in Tamil Nadu for almost 11 days. Several people ended up watching it on pirated DVDs and not theatres. This is why we particularly chose a look from Thalaiva
a and not any of the other Vijay films."
Ask him if Vijay is aware of something like this being done for him and he says, "No, we were not able to contact him. In fact, our decision to unveil it in the presence of the media is to make sure he comes to know about it," says Sabari.
