Tollywood in Much Needed of Changing the Actress, At a time when the likes of Tamannahah, Shruti, Samantha and Kajal are making waves with one hit after another, a clutch of Next Gen girls have grabbed the limelight in Tollywood. Hyderabad Times gives a lowdown on the next generation girls, who are slowly but surely creating a niche for themselves, and bagging plum offers.
Rakul Preet Singh, the former Miss India finalist, who made her Bollywood debut with Divya Kumar's directorial venture Yaariyaan, has been on a signing spree in tinsel town. Post the success of Venkatadri Express, the slender beauty's name has been on everybody's lip as reputed filmmakers are vying to cast her as the leading lady. Rakul has bagged as many as five plum projects in the recent times, with the latest being Ravi Teja-starrer Kick 2. The diva, who took her own time to choose scripts, is sure to find more fans as time goes by.
Quiz Rakul on what she looks at before signing a film and she says, "I love my job and as an actor, I enjoy my work. And if great offers are coming my way, then why let them go? While working on multiple projects, I try and adjust my dates accordingly. I typically look at my role and the script, apart from the director, hero and the production house, etc."
The charming Adah Sharma is another big talent to watch out for. After creating a splash with her performance in her debut Heart Attack, the Hasee Toh Phasee girl has signed four films including a Kannada one. And don't be surprised if this girl casts a spell with her performance in the coming films. Adah Sharma would be seen opposite the likes of Allu Arjun, Manchu Manoj and another big hero in Telugu.
Ask her if she has a strategy for signing several films, the actress says, "I'm very fortunate to have started my career in Telugu with a commercial film, Heart Attack. Since the audience accepted me, I would love to do more films. I'm trying to do roles that I have not done earlier, experiment with different looks, varied characterisation and I'm being offered great stuff."
Also in the reckoning among the Next Gen girls is Regina Cassandra. Apart from doing a couple of Tamil films, the pretty lady has signed five Telugu films, and has a range of roles. "I don't want to restrict myself to one particular genre of films. I like to experiment. Everytime I get a new offer I like to see what the scope for performance is. I'd relish taking up some challenging roles," explains Regina.
Director Tatineni Satya, who roped in Regina as the leading lady in his film Shankara, tells why he zoomed in on the actress, "The film is a racy thriller that plays out in a social backdrop. The lead actress had to be someone who could back the hero's endeavour. We wanted a first time pair and Regina was our unanimous choice. Moreover, I have already worked with Regina and Iknow her well and am confident of her performance."
Similarly, Raashi Khanna started her career with a bang with her debut Oohalu Gusagusalade. Now, she has been signed on for three films in Tollywood and is set to go places. Pooja Hegde is also one of the strong contenders for the leading lady roles amongst the fresh faces in Tollyland. After making her debut with Oka Laila Kosam, Pooja okayed a couple of projects in Telugu, apart from her Bollywood debut Mohenjo Daro, opposite Hrithik Roshan.
