When the surprising blockbuster of the year Pelli Choopulu released on July 29th along with Jakkanna, many thought that it would fizzle off soon against Sunil's mass comedy entertainer.
But to everyone's shock, Pelli Choopulu not only withstood Jakkanna's force, but it also made Jakkanna bite the dust miserably. Wth Jakkanna's fate started a series of devastating Fridays for Tollywood as all the new releases bombed one after the other.
After tasting the much needed success with Pelli Choopulu, Tollywood's trade had to reel under 7 continuous flops, including a pack of low budget movies such as Rani Gaari Bungalow, Campus Ampasayya, Bommala Ramaram and Sivagami etc.
Coming to medium budget movies, Mohanlal's Manamantha, after showing much promise with positive reviews, failed to sustain at the box-office commercially. Allu Sirish's Srirastu Subhamasthu got an okay response and its final fate may be known after its final run.
Even Sai Dharam Tej, who was on a hat-trick, tasted the second disaster in his career with Thikka. Then came Venky-Maruthi's Babu Bangaram, which got a decent response, may bring a smile on the buyers' face in the end.
And both the last Friday releases, Chuttalabbayi and Aatadukundam Raa met with mediocre reviews and disastrous collections, leaving Tollywood with just 1 hit and 7 flops within just three Fridays. Trade circles are predicting a cumulative loss of nearly 20-25 crores on all these movies.
